What's KASH?
The Kansas Association for Social Housing (KASH) is a grassroots organization based in Lawrence, Kansas. We work to build community-controlled housing through cooperative models, tenant organizing, and mutual aid.Our focus is on supporting people most impacted by housing injustice, not landlords or profit-driven developers. We believe housing should be governed by the people who live in it, and we’re committed to building structures that make that possible.
Our Work
We support cooperative, community-based housing in Lawrence, Kansas through:Lawrence Trans Housing Fund
We co-steward a community fund providing emergency and transitional housing support for trans people in Lawrence. The fund is grassroots, needs-based, and part of a broader vision for collective care.Cooperative Housing Development
We provide resources, support, and infrastructure to help launch and sustain housing cooperatives. Our focus is on long-term affordability, democratic governance, and community control.Education & Advocacy
We host workshops, share tools, and build public support for cooperative and non-speculative housing models. Our goal is to shift the conversation around housing from profit to people.We’re also proud to be in coalition with tenant unions, mutual aid networks, and organizers working toward housing justice across Kansas.
